Day 3

Rather nice weather today and yesterday's fuel figures are now complete, though I would like to point out that I did get caught in a bit of traffic so this may have some affect on the results. It required rather a lot more filtering then I normally do, plus it was a tad colder then today. Not the worse, but still cold, I think -3 at night.
Today's cost for the last lot of travel was £13.45 for 14.17 litres:

(Mpg 42.35) KM per Litre:14.99 Pence per mile:10.19

A little increase there, but then I may have been a little heaver on the throttle and that traffic would have not helped. Lots of braking and gear changes....
Also by now the fuel in the bike should just be the BP Ultimate stuff, no Mirrisons unleaded mixed with Pro FSTadditivee.
Next might show some different results as I am having to travel do the A3 to work and then the M25 and M3, as there are some road works starting in the A325 for 34 weeks! So I might as well just consider that a closed road, I can on imagine the congestion that could cause on a busy single carriage way.
The taffic this morning was much more free flowing, and I tried to keep the bike below 6k rpm most of the way. The temp was about 2 C.
If next week goes well I plan on testing Shells Optimax and Tesco's Super Unleaded.

Spark plugs changed, plus a few more miles of town riding added to pick them up.

2nd day of the Fuel Experiment

Looking good, notice a much more responsive bike, and what seems a better economy. So I manage my 130 round trip and get back to the pump this morning. Fill up and manage £13.13 for 13.84 litres, much better. Almost like what it was before this bad weather set in, lets see those figures then:

(Mpg 42.7) KM per Litre:15.11 Pence per mile:10.10

Much much better, now that may have been due to a number of factors so I'm going to have to run this for a few days. As maybe I was just taking it easy due to the problems with the bike, also when I replace the plugs I may even get better performance. But I am happy so far, the bike is back to the £13 fuel mark that its was at for now. Which means the extra cost has been equally offset by the improvements in economy and performance.

The Fuel Experiment

Just lately my GT has be running rather rough, possibley due to the cold weather and carb icing and possibly bad spark plugs. This is giving me some rather awfull fueling. I sometimes get home with the reseve light flashing, which normally never happens. So other then replacing the spark plugs which I'm doing later this afternoon I though I'd give some of the BP Ultimate fuel a try. After all its ment to give you a cleaner engine, better performance, Better fuel economy, and less polution. I've also been told it may even inprove the problems with carb icing, so I thought what the hell.
The fuel is rather more expensive at 94.9 per litre, compared to the 86.9 I get from Morrision, but maybe just maybe that cheap fuel is not doing my bike much good. The bike can't drink the fuel much worse then it is and it was almost empty due to a rather hungry trip. £17.51 later for 18.45 litres the bike is full and I'm off, I can say when I got to work the bike appears to be running better with less cut outs and what appears to be more fuel left. Lets see what happens over the next few days.

Current fuel figures. (newest - oldest)
(Mpg 34.5) KM per Litre:12.21 Pence per mile:11.45 (very cold day)
(Mpg 38.7) KM per Litre:13.7 Pence per mile:10.21 (cold day)
(Mpg 43.03) KM per Litre:15.23 Pence per mile:9.07 (nice - bit wet)

2 Stroke

Now here's something you don't see every day, a Kawasaki KR-1S, 250 cc, 2-stoker. This is a bike I once owned and is now in the possession of my brother. Oh these things where quick, though I'd only ridden mine a few times. Was in rather a state when I got it, and need rather alot of work just to get it to start. A properly tuned one will even give most modern bikes a run for there money, though it is a bit like sitting on a razor... Posted by Picasa

Damaged for Life.

In July 2005 I got recovered for a flat tyre, and the recovery company dropped my bike which also resulted in my knee getting smashed up. Most details in this post.
Well I saw my physio this weekend and we have had our final appointment, well unless I have some flare ups. As a result of a chat with him it looks like I may well be stuck with my click knee and aches for life. He told me that I have excellent muscle bulk on my leg and the while exercise may in time resolve the problem it could be going on for the rest of my life. I just have to keep up my exercises at home and hope for the best. The other option which I will be talking to my Orthopedic consultant is surgery, but as my physio said this may end up making the condition worse, so I think I'd rather avoid it and live with the problem.
So I'll trying to contact my solicitor today to try to get my insurance claim moved a long and I have a appointment with my consultant.
